ABOUT WILLIE J. HAGAN

portrait.jpeg

Navy brat, having attended 13 schools between kindergarten and high school. Always the new kid, or the only Black kid, on the block, always trying to fit in. This is why themes of alienation and being the outsider permeate so much of my work. Writing became a place of escape while riding cross-country in the backseat of the car or waiting in a new neighborhood to be welcomed or caught by the local kids.

Ph.D. in psychology, 10 years as a political lobbyist, many more as a university vice president and recently retired after seven years as a university president. Clearly, this was all preproduction for my life as a writer.

M.F.A. in Screenwriting from UCLA. Adapted the novel Darkfall, written by British author, Stephen Laws, for Dimension Films.

Adapted the novel, June Bug by Chris Fabry, with director Ian McCrudden. Script was produced and premiered on the Lifetime Movie network.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

~ Hunter S. Thompson
